The impact of plastic ocean debris
Polyester is the most widely used fiber in the textile industry. With a production volume of 57 million tons, polyester was the most used fiber accounting for 52 percent of the global fiber market. Meanwhile, more than 8 million tons of plastic is dumped into oceans every year. According to the Chinese Academy of Sciences, at least 19 million kilograms of plastic have accumulated and are floating in the oceans, which has resulted in millions of whales, sea turtles, fish, and other marine life being affected by plastic debris.
